Debbie, I stumbled on to your post on Teri's blog yesterday. Your story, and presentation here, is fantastic! Thank you for sharing and for all the encouragement you have given me in my TJEd pursuit- answering my questions over and over, sharing your experience, pointing me to resources and loaning me books, cd's, etc. You are a wonderful mother, wife, leader and friend, and I'm very thankful for you in my life :o)

I really enjoyed this post! Thank you for sharing your story. I think it is helpful for others to see the "process" you describe. Of course, it will be different for each family yet the principles are the same. For some of us who only have the typical public school paradigm, it is hard to trust that process until we see evidence from other families that leadership education provides both a superior education and a superior individual. Stories like yours provide that evidence. Again, thank you for sharing.

LOVE your post Debbie - thank you for sharing your heart with us. I absolutely love the Tapestry concept - it is comforting to think that way. For me - it is easy not to use the conveyor belt- I'm not sure why - I fought it while I was a teacher - And I was so trapped by it, I left teaching in the traditional sense and now "teach" anyone who will listen - somedays it's just Smokey (the cat) and I ;-)

Re: Debbie, Stephanie and Janet
You guys crack me up! You can leave as many comments as you would like! I'm just grateful that someone IS again! ;0) I thought that the post was phenomenal, and the comments, Stephanie are actually very helpful for people that are trying to take a different direction than the one in which they were educated!
Janet is one of my dearest friends and obviously, your posts and comments as well as others are influencing her in a different direction.

Tommymom was very good today.
My question is...I am getting a bit of a vision for the leadership education, if I were to purchase basic books just to read and to possibly share with Jordan where do I start??? I've got grand kids you know!!

Grateful for a new vision,
Janet

Stephanie, you are SO funny! Here is the truth...if it wasn't for Teri offering to be my chauffeur and pick me up from the airport and YOU offering your home for me to stay, I probably would have not came to CA. It is definitely a team effort to spread these principles. Now I hope I can take those seeds that I gathered from CA and scatter them in the Midwest. You and Ben have your own wonderful qualites that has weaved us all together! Thank you, Stephanie, from the bottom of my heart for what you do!!! You too, Teri!!

Now to edit some content...my "public schooled" comment was not meant to infer that all who are public schooled develop a dislike of reading. I just thought of how that might be interpreted. My personality is such that I don't enjoy doing things that I'm forced to do and that is probably why I developed the dislike of being forced to read certain books I had no interest in reading and having to write reports on the same. I know many people who love to read who went through the same school system I did. Just didn't work out so well with me is all. ;) Hope that set the record straight. And sorry for taking up so many comments, Debbie and Teri!

Okay, I just reread my comment and I am not a great writer...I used the word take 3 x's in 2 two sentences. Let me try that again,

"...admire the person you are and the path you have chosen. It's the one much less travled and requires a great leader to take it!"

Okay, that was much less painful to read, I hope. :)

Also missing an "I" before "read right through it"

Okay, I'm done editing my comment.

Indeed, I did! Couldn't stop reading once I started. What an entry, I loved every bit of it. I know you much better now, Debbie, and admire the person you are and the path you have taken. It's the one much less traveled and takes a great leader to take it! Thanks for your example of being the best Mom those kids could have. You have inspired me to reach for the same. I was public schooled and developed a dislike of reading so I usually can't finish a blog entry in one sitting. This one drew me in and read right through it in one attempt, while holding the wiggly baby. Awesome! You are a great writer and your life is very interesting to me. Thanks, again, for sharing your uplifting story with us. Hope all is well there and hope you come to visit with that family! :)
