“How do I Post?”, why you should, and…We Have a Winner!

I have officially been at “this blogging thing” for a little over a month.

I’m having a ball…

And feeling somewhat savvy…

Don’t be impressed…

This possibly brings me to the computer skill level of the average 4-year-old in America today.

Woo-Hoo.

I have been on quite a learning curve; managing to find out some fascinating things about the internet world…

Specifically the blogging community.

I’m far from finished…

I would like to say how very humbled I am that so many of you would choose to become regular readers…

And send me really kind, nice, well thought out e-mails…

You don’t have to,

because you’re not family…

I am touched.

Seriously.

Still others of you leave comments on the blog, so that a regular community can be formed.

Probably so that you don’t just have to listen to me…

Smart move.

“The Sons” would applaud your brilliance.

I want everyone to be able to read how kind, considerate, articulate and earnest so many of you are about

family,

this country,

and any form of education that is inclusive of pursuing leadership.

Just in case the issue at hand is “not knowing how to post to a blog”…

Here are some instructions…

Along with a nifty visual…

TommyMom posts are every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday…

barring natural disaster…

Or, just a wild hair…

but so far, so good.

When you have finished reading the post on one of those days, this is what the bottom of it will look like…

Pictures will vary…

Comments photo

See the word “Comments” on the right?

In a real post, this is where you want to place your mouse and click.

You will then get a screen with a box, where you put your name, and if it’s your first time posting, a place to put your e-mail address ( which will never be shared with anyone)…promise,

and a box for you to comment in

Fire away.

This is how we build community…

Which is defined by Webster as: “a society of people, having common rights and privileges, or common interests.”

And sometimes the above mentioned rights, privileges and interests won’t be so common…

But then, things will possibly be even more interesting!

When you post, it gets “recorded” or “tallied” somewhere in the blogosphere….

I seriously doubt that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs are doing this, so don’t hold your breath…

But!…

It helps to position the category of Leadership Education on the internet in what will eventually be “key places.”

You may “subscribe” to the blog by entering your e-mail address in the sidebar to the right and following directions as well…

That’s about the full extent of my understanding to date…

When I finish consulting with 5 and 6-year-olds, I’ll get back to you…

In the meantime…

In honor of the holidays, and your undying devotion thus far…

I’m announcing “We Have a Winner! Wednesdays” that will be going into effect immediately, so read on…

christmas-present

Happy 21st Birthday, Son #1!

“I have no greater joy than to know that my children walk in truth.” ~ 3 John 4

2

Twenty-one years ago, on December 3, 1988, two great events simultaneously took place. A son, destined to be #1 in this family, and a mother were born.

I, along with the millions to have gone before me, was clueless...

Everything leading up to this moment was a combination of theory and second hand information.

From here on out, the rubber was going to meet the road.

Because of your birth order, you have been a “test kitchen” for many parenting theories and ideologies…

3

You’ve survived.

You, unlike the rest of your siblings, also benefited from two years of undivided attention from those same well meaning, albeit idealistic parents.

5

No one else in your “herd” of brothers can lay claim to this “accomplishment.”

6

Diligently determined, introspective, outspoken, honest, principle driven, fiercely loyal to family and friends…

These are but a few of the many adjectives that accurately describe who you are.

You have applied yourself well to many difficult lessons, situations, and challenges in your relatively short life,

and because of your application, you thrive…

Dad and I watch you apply what we have now come to cherish and rely on as our greatest treasures…

Biblical truth and the familial legacy of wisdom handed down from our own parents.

You are blessed with a legacy of greatness on both sides of your family…

It is inspiring to watch you seek after the same.

Practicing servant leadership, while modeling strength,

we watch you work with hundreds of children every week…a coveted reward for two parents attempting to do their best.

Very few people in this present day truly value children, see their God-given potential, and encourage them to attain it.

13

You are one of those people.

78

You are an excellent, but not perfect, example to your younger brothers.

You value the friendship and camaraderie of the same, above all others.

DSC00748_2

You continue to seek after knowledge and apply truth and are faithful to pursue those above personal comfort.

DSC00815

You are a patriotic American, versed in freedom and its value for people world wide, knowing that there is a cost to maintain it.

DSC00841

You continue to study in case you are called upon to practice statesmanship in situations where the stakes are high.

DSC00433

You consistently model confidence that you will embrace this task and responsibility at all costs, should the need arise.

Where Dad and I are concerned, you have definitely been “iron sharpening iron” in our lives.

7

We love you, cherish you, and look forward to the coming years of intimate friendship with you and your family.

Happy 21st Birthday, Son…

Thank you for being the impetus that allowed me to embark on the greatest journey of my life.

Festival of the Trees…For the Love of a Child, part 2

I left you on Monday with three one word questions…

They were:  Messy?…Purposeful?…Rewarding?…

The answer to all three is “yes.”

DSC02098

Leadership Education is effective, not efficient.

You may want to reread that…

It consumes time…

In rather large quantities…

But in the long run, when crisis, calamity or just plain old leadership void hits a situation, a nation, a continent…

It can not only be a time saver, but a freedom preserver, a life giver, a savior of the need at hand.

It pays priceless dividends on the investment given.

DSC02116

We decorated for 8 1/2 hours that day.

DSC02118

This is the first year that the Festival has had a “thematic guideline”…

Due to their 20th year anniversary and desire for some cohesiveness…

You had to chose a title or phrase from a Christmas song.

We went with “All I Want for Christmas Is My Two Front Teeth.”

DSC02120

With the help of many we pulled ( sorry, couldn’t resist!) it off!

We loved that our tree represented community effort…

On the part of our pediatric dentist, Gary Okamoto, for supplies…

DSC02172

A teacher friend, Susan Hill for taking all of our “toothless” photos of kindergarten through second graders…

Kathy Morris, who designed our tree topper, and could make bailing wire, a tube of toothpaste and a toothpick look like a million dollars…

DSC02152

And last, but certainly not least, Tammie Blackmore, community leader extraordinaire…

for roping us in encouraging us to participate and then securing us a spot in the design room!

Wow!…no pressure…

Take a look at some of these trees

And the neonatal unit raises money for specific items that are needed…

Let me say here that Americans are generous…

And benevolent…

One of the doctors that attended led out with a bid for $10,000…

for neonatal respirators that save lives…

they needed two.

With all of the recent villianization of the medical profession, I cried at the reality at hand…

There are great doctors…

That dedicate their lives and resources to people

They are people as well

Not institutions…

Or corporate machines…
