A True Hero In My Book

You hear a lot about heros …

and superheroes these days.

There’s even a tremendous box office hit right now.

I, along with millions of Americans, loved it!

But this past weekend…

I saw a hero in action.

Most of you know…

my obsession with  interest in…

MAC makeup.

I’ve been known to stalk a counter or two.

I have a friend…

who needed some assistance in this vein last Saturday.

We were already in Orange County…

so we wound up in Nordstrom…

at the counter.

Both are heaven on earth for me personally.

When we walked in…

there he stood.

Erect…

regal…

quietly waiting.

Marine and prom date at the MAC makeup counter

He was even in his gloves…

holding his hat…

and her bracelet…

while she finished up…

having her makeup done…

for the prom!

My friend, Lu Ann…

Lu Ann eating Red Velvet Cake for birthday

who was awaiting consultation…

zoomed in with her camera…

so she could text her Marine corp husband…

and get the scoop on his rank.

She’s nosey like that…

in the best sort of way.

Turns out our hero in question…

is a PFC Expert Rifleman.

The job took awhile…

but she was beautiful.

I went and sat by him.

Yeah, I’m a creeper like that.

Especially for the Marine Corp dress uniform.

Good thing I was, indeed, seated…

as I think I could’ve easily swooned.

I caught myself wondering if he vacuumed, too.

When’s the last time you thanked someone…

for serving our country…

so we could be free?

Free to vote…

educate…

start a business…

life a life…

choose a lipstick?

life, liberty and…lipstick?! Seriously…love this post. I was struck by this at the Palm Springs Air Museum on Memorial Day. It was a great day…not as warm as it could have been. While we were all standing out waiting for the carnation drop, we had the privilege to hear about the men, the aircraft and the conditions. I couldn’t believe some of the people who complained about the heat. Then there was the man that drug his wife out of the crowd saying the “speech was too long”. SERIOUSLY?!?!? I was there with my Little Man and one of our favorite young adults. I reminded them both that all of us standing there being mildly uncomfortable doesn’t begin to compare to what the men that flew these planes and fought in these wars experienced. Thank you doesn’t seem to be enough, but I try to always say it. I usually am teared up a bit when I do…

That was so sweet! What a great post! Thanks to you and Lu Ann for creeping ever so slyly so you can share this cute story with us! What a true officer and gentleman he is!

That is one thing that we miss about Yucca Valley. We were so close to the 29 Palms Marine Base. We had some wonderful experiences in relation to these awesome young men. Yes, we made a point of thanking those currently serving and those that have served in the past. These were wonderful experiences! Some were so grateful for the acknowledgement and would share with us their stories and experiences. Others would offer advice and complement and encourage my children. Some were embarrassed and said that it was nothing; serving in the military was “just something that we did.” We also had the opportunity to interact with their families. These were also interesting experiences. I am so grateful for the opportunity that we had. It certainly went a long way in teaching my children about patriotism and giving of yourself for the benefit of others. In our new home we still make it a point to thank these wonderful men; we just have fewer opportunities.

    Thank you for sharing this!
